I love the movie Phantom of the Opera. One of my favorite scenes is the Masquerade Ball which is an event where the participants attend in costume wearing decorative masks keeping their faces covered up. Everything around the event is decorated very elaborately, however it made me think about the mask we so often wear, without even attending any party or elaborate ball.
For instance, why is it so difficult to be honest with other people in our lives, or even ourselves for that matter. We tend to “fake it until we make it” and this is both unhealthy and not how God wants us to live our life. 3 John 1:4 says “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”
Because of our own insecurities and wanting to be accepted, we so desperately will put on a fake persona to get that acceptance from whoever will give it to us. The problem with this is that is not who God wants us to be and not who you are. Walking in truth can be scary for a split second, but when you do it you will find that this is truly how God wants you to be and you will start to like YOU! Over time you will start to feel FREEDOM in CHRIST.
The bottom line is everyone wants to feel accepted and and loved. The safety net is to look to God to fulfill every need, want and desire you have FIRST. Trust God with everything you have and that starts with YOU. Give Him your all. You can still go to the ball, just without the mask to be truly free in CHRIST!
