When I was in Junior High, we were asked to interview someone for an English project. The purpose behind this assignment was to listen to the person as they shared their life story and to glean perspectives of where they had been and what they had learned. I was so excited as I was going to interview my Grandfather.
As I pressed the record button on the tape recorder, the questions started flying.
When did you fall in love with Grandma?
What was it like living through The Great Depression?
When Did you know you were called to be a Pastor?
My Grandfather answered the questions and then he smiled at me. He started talking about running a race. He talked to me for a long time about Hebrews 12 where it says to run the race marked out FOR YOU, not BY YOU. The words he left me with that day were, stay the course.
I have reflected so many times over the years about that talk with my Grandpa. You see, life has happened. Hi-cups and all. When I was walking in rebellion, I chose to not stay the course. Why? Because, In my flesh it was easier for me to feed the course marked out BY ME. In the deepest moments of sin, loss, insecurity, the enemy wants us to think we are on the right course. I am reminded that the spice vanilla smells good and taste horrible. The same is true with the enemy’s tactics. Looking back, I know that God has so much more for me and he does for you too.
In the moments when you feel like giving up…Stay the course. God is faithful to meet you where you are and will supply all your needs. Rest in HIM and His presence. God doesn’t just want to do something for you,but in you. DON’T GIVE UP!
