Have you ever felt like you didn’t measure up? I know I have and it was a season that literally almost choked the life out of me because I was so enslaved to food, the scale and trying to find my worth and value in material things.
Twenty years ago I would begin my day by getting on the scale. If the numbers were down I would be in a great mood and feel like I was worth something because I was achieving my goal. If the numbers were up however, I felt like I was doing something wrong before I had even started my day. Defeated again.
It didn’t end there. I knew God loved me and I was trying each day to get better, but I continually struggled. Until one day I stepped on the scale, same routine in the morning but the numbers were up. I was completely defeated. How could this be? I really tried hard yesterday? Did you? It wasn’t an audible voice, but I knew whose voice it was.
What was placed on my heart from the Holy Spirit was you have put your worth in a scale and in material things and the only thing you need to put your worth in is God. He is everlasting and will guide and direct you in all your ways. As I pondered on that thought the defeat left. I was at peace and I made a decision that morning to start making some changes.
Instead of going to the scale first thing in the morning, I would make God first priority.
I would also read and re-read Psalm 139:23,24
Search me, oh God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
I would talk to God. I would tell him my daily struggle. If you are struggling with this or something else…talk to God. The more I talked to God the more free I felt.
Today I enjoy food because I am not enslaved to it. I know I am valued in God and I have worth because of Him.
