I Love Thanksgiving. Everything about it. From all of the family gathering around the table and being able to get together and enjoy one another’s company to the wonderful food. This year we are going to my parents home, actually today. So all my senses are gearing up for whats to come as we open the back door to their home and smell the yumminess, which is just a prelude of whats to come as we fill our plates.
Thanksgiving is the one holiday that is focused on gratitude and being thankful. Not focusing on myself or whats going on in my little world and give thanks for everything I have. Although it is so effortless to give thanks the month of November, I have found it is so easy to get side tracked the other eleven months of the year. If I am not careful things like fear, doubt, financial crisis, broken relationships and other life events can skew my perspective and attitude really quick.
God’s Word says; give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18. What I am continually learning is life continues to happen. Finances are continually changing, diagnosis come, relationships in life may not be where I would like them to be. When my life moments are happening how do I respond? Am I responding in fear, anger, or hurt? Do I withdraw and keep things bottled up inside?
When I reflect on 1 Thessalonians 5:18, it says to give thanks in ALL things. Yes, even in my circumstances that I truly don’t understand. Why? Because, God is always in control and for that I can give thanks. I may not understand what is happening at all, but that is where prayer comes in. What God is teaching me is sometimes it is not the answer I was hoping for, but the answer God is giving me. This is where I will give thanks because God knows whats best for me.
My prayer for you as you celebrate this Thanksgiving is that it doesn’t end on Thursday. I pray you will make this next year and years of your life on this earth a life of Thanksgiving each and every day no matter what comes your way as you give thanks in all of your circumstances with God and unto God as He walks with you because there is ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, something to be thankful for!
